Before opening Brush Creek Assisted Living, I spent more than a decade working as a registered nurse in hospitals across California. During my career I worked in several areas of healthcare and eventually earned my Master’s degree, later managing hospital departments such as the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Special Procedures units, where patients experiencing heart attacks and strokes receive urgent care.
While I deeply respected the healthcare professionals I worked alongside, I also saw how difficult it can be for large systems to provide the personal attention people deserve. In busy hospitals, patients are often treated as room numbers rather than individuals with a lifetime of stories and experiences.
Throughout my nursing career, especially while caring for patients recovering from falls and injuries like broken hips, I met many older adults who could no longer safely return home alone. They needed help with meals, medications, transportation, and daily tasks — but many were also missing something just as important: companionship.
During night shifts, I often pulled up a chair next to a patient’s bed and spent time talking with them. They shared stories about their families, their lives, and the experiences that shaped them. Those conversations stayed with me and reminded me that every person deserves to be cared for as a human being, not just as a patient.
When my family and I created Brush Creek Assisted Living, we wanted to take everything I learned in healthcare — keeping the good while creating a more personal, home-like environment.
For example, instead of room numbers, each room in our home is named after a tree — Redwood, Willow, Cypress — helping create a peaceful space that feels more like home than a facility.
Brush Creek was intentionally designed as a small residential home where caregivers truly know each resident. My background as a nurse also helps guide how we approach safety, health monitoring, and coordination with medical providers.
My family and I live less than ten miles away and remain closely involved because this is not just a business for us — it’s something we care deeply about.
We created Brush Creek to be the kind of place we would want for our own parents: a place where seniors feel safe, respected, and part of a community.
If you are exploring care options for yourself or a loved one, I would love to invite you to visit our home and experience the difference a smaller, more personal environment can make.
